Hifi Choice

Bit of sad news about Future Publishing, closing it's doors after a good few years and selling off it's eight audio related titles ... the main one being Hifi Choice. Whether Choice will continue is dependent on who buys it I suppose, but I always thought it was good read with quite balanced articles and didn't seem to fall into the trap of favouring big advertising spenders in it's reviews.

Trade ins and part exchanges

Nordost Valhalla secondhand

We have another Nordost Valhalla 2m pair of speaker cables .. this one is factory terminated at the source end but unterminated at the speaker end ... this can be left unterminated or we can reterminate it here for Bi-wire or Shotgun using Nordost 'Z' plugs or Spades. We use only high quality WBT solder and genuine plugs and heatshrink.

Nordost Red Dawn

We are still getting enquiries about the old version of Red Dawn, REV 2. We can still supply this, but now only made up by us, not factory terminated lengths. We can also still get Blue Heaven REV2.

Secondhand Stax and Lyra

Got a few interesting bits and bobs coming in as trade ins over the next few weeks. Firstly a pair of Stax Lambda Novas which will be here in a few days... will refurb these before they go out ... they may not need it, but prefer to fit new pads before reselling really. Also in a few days .. though from a different source, a Stax SRDx energiser. So an ideal set for somebody.

In around four weeks we are trading a very low use Lyra Argo ... email me to register your interest in this one... it may end up on my Sondek yet, but if I get a good enough offer I may let it go.

Black Rhodium Illusion cable

Have noticed recently that our favourite mid priced interconnect, the Black Rhodium Illusion, has been very quiet recently. None sold this year, which is a shame. The original cost around £80 and was a real giant killer... though it looks like two pieces of string twisted together it has to be one of the most natural sounding cables made. If you want that sort of realism but also extended bass and large soundstage then you would certainly need to multiply your budget by five.

Over the years the price of the Illusion has increased to be honest .. the 'Diva' upgrade a few years ago brought the price up to just over £150 ... and Cryogenically treated versions were introduced at over £250 .. now we have Phantom ... a double cryogenically treated version with a gauze jacket selling at around £350. All exceptionally good... but perhaps they have clouded the range a little and confused everybody, I dont know... All I know is, the Illusion makes midrange equipment sound wonderful .. without the usual over analysis of the presentation and highlighting of the negative aspects that most really good cables acheive when put into non esoteric equipment.

Rega Turntable oil

We have a supply of original Rega bearing oil. If anybody needs any send an email. Bottles are 5 pounds each and free UK postage. We put in enough for two refills ( a refill is 4 drops ) ..... otherwise, check out Ebay as we have them for sale on there.

I am considering writing a Rega service website with tips and tweeks, but whether time will permit I'm not sure ... will post a link if it transpires!
